PARKESBURG, PA — Police arrested a 22-year-old man on felony theft charges after an investigation uncovered what authorities describe as a sophisticated fraud scheme involving an impersonation of a U.S. Treasury Agent.
According to the Parkesburg Borough Police Department, the case began on September 10, 2025, when a borough resident reported being defrauded of $35,000.00 in cash. The victim told police he had been contacted by someone claiming to be from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, who warned that his personal information had been compromised and instructed him to turn over his assets for “safekeeping.” Police said the victim was also provided with fraudulent documents to reinforce the scam.
Authorities reported that the victim was contacted a second time and asked to provide an additional $85,000.00. At that point, investigators initiated an undercover operation. On September 18, 2025, officers observed the victim meet with an individual posing as a Treasury Agent in the 100 block of West First Avenue. Police allege that the suspect, identified as Aftab Ahmed Shaik, arrived at the location, completed the staged exchange, and was immediately taken into custody.
Police said Shaik’s vehicle and additional evidence were secured as part of the investigation. He was transported to Chester County Prison and arraigned by District Judge Nancy Gill. Bail was set at $100,000.00 cash with a Nebbia requirement, meaning any funds used to post bail must be proven to have been obtained through legitimate means.
Shaik is currently being held at Chester County Prison pending a preliminary hearing at District Court 15-3-07.
Authorities emphasized that all charges are allegations, and Shaik is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
