Fake Cop Arrested After Shocking Wilmington Home Invasion

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have apprehended a man accused of a home invasion in which he reportedly pretended to be a police officer to gain access to the victim’s residence.

The incident took place on March 31, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., in the 800 block of North Spruce Street. According to the victim, an unknown individual identifying himself as a police officer forcibly entered their home and stole several items. Wilmington Police initiated an investigation into the case the following day.

Detective Justin Wilkers from the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to the investigation. Through his efforts, 40-year-old George Lacey was identified as the suspect involved in the alleged crime. On April 29, officers from the Uniformed Services Division located Lacey near East 19th and North Pine Streets. He was taken into custody without incident.

Lacey now faces several serious charges, including first-degree burglary, criminal impersonation of a police officer, second-degree assault, aggravated menacing, and theft under $1,500. Following his arrest, Lacey was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11. He has been remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington with bail set at $29,000, requiring cash payment.

Law enforcement officials have emphasized that all allegations against Lacey remain unproven, and the defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty in court.
