Employee Accused of Stealing $1,170 in Lottery Tickets From Spring Township Giant

SINKING SPRING, PA — A 44-year-old Berks County man has been charged following a police investigation into missing lottery ticket sales at a Giant store in Spring Township.

Authorities said officers were dispatched on July 28, 2025, to the Giant located at 2641 Shillington Road after store security reported a shortage in lottery ticket funds totaling $1,170.

An internal review by Giant security revealed discrepancies between June 6 and July 11, 2025, when lottery tickets reportedly decreased on 14 separate days without corresponding sales being logged in the store’s computer system. The shortages were traced back to the store’s gas station.

Following an investigation, police identified and arrested Chad Roeder, 44, on July 31, 2025.

Charges Filed

Roeder has been charged with:

  • Retail Theft – Take Merchandise
  • Receiving Stolen Property

The case is proceeding through the judicial system. Authorities stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
