Elderly Woman Tragically Killed in Newark Parking Lot Collision

NEWARK, DE — An elderly woman has died following a collision in a shopping center parking lot in Newark on the morning of May 14, 2025.

According to the Newark Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:30 a.m. to the 200 block of East Main Street, where the incident occurred. Investigators say the woman was crossing the parking lot toward the storefronts when she was struck by a pickup truck traveling through the area.

Emergency responders from the Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder Company provided medical assistance at the scene before transporting the pedestrian to a local hospital. The woman was admitted in serious, critical condition. However, she succumbed to her injuries during the overnight hours.

The driver of the vehicle was identified at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. The Newark Police Traffic Response Unit, alongside the Delaware Attorney General’s Office, is reviewing potential charges related to the incident.
