AVONDALE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police from the Avondale barracks reported multiple arrests, crashes, and ongoing investigations across southern Chester County between January 30 and March 1, according to incident reports released by the agency.
The most recent incident occurred March 1 at about 1:30 a.m. in West Grove Borough. According to state police, troopers conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Meetinghouse Road and determined the driver of a 2004 Toyota Tundra was allegedly operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Police said the driver was placed under arrest following the stop.
Later that evening, troopers investigated a crash in New London Township. Police said a 75-year-old Lincoln University man was driving a 2024 Ford Maverick north on the 2100 block of Newark Road around 6:47 p.m. when the vehicle allegedly failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. According to state police, the truck left the roadway, struck a mailbox, and continued about 300 feet before hitting a tree. The driver suffered a minor injury to his left hand and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
On February 28 at about 5:23 a.m., troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on the 100 block of Gap Newport Pike in Londonderry Township. Police said a 2015 Mazda CX-5 struck a deer that ran into the roadway. The driver reported no injuries and the vehicle remained operable.
Authorities also reported several incidents involving juveniles.
On February 27 at about 3:15 p.m., troopers responded to the Pennsylvania State Police Avondale station in London Grove Township for a report of an assault. According to police, the alleged victim was a 13-year-old girl from Oxford and the suspect was a 12-year-old girl from Avondale. State police said the investigation remains pending.
Two days earlier, on February 25 at about 7:37 a.m., troopers conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of High Point Road in West Fallowfield Township. Police said a 57-year-old Cochranville man was taken into custody after troopers determined he was allegedly driving under the influence. His vehicle, a 2002 General Motors model, was towed from the scene.
Police also reported a crash February 25 at the intersection of East Avondale Road and Wickerton Road in London Grove Township. According to state police, a 2024 Jeep Cherokee allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 2015 Buick Encore. No injuries were reported.
On February 24, troopers responded to a crash on the 100 block of Kennett Oxford Bypass south of U.S. Route 1 in Lower Oxford Township. Police said a Jeep struck the rear of a bus while traveling in the same lane. A 47-year-old driver from Glen Mills and a 76-year-old driver from Oxford were transported to ChristianaCare with suspected minor injuries.
Another crash occurred February 22 in East Nottingham Township on the 100 block of Chrome Road south of Christine Road. According to police, a vehicle allegedly traveled too fast for snowy conditions, struck an embankment, overturned, and slid into the roadway. No injuries were reported, though multiple traffic citations were issued.
Troopers also investigated a crash February 22 at the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Onix Drive in East Marlborough Township. Police said a 2007 Toyota Camry allegedly failed to stop properly and struck a 2022 Toyota Tacoma. Both vehicles remained drivable and no injuries were reported.
In Highland Township on February 18 at about 6:11 a.m., police said a Mazda CX-5 was struck by a vehicle that left the scene after turning onto State Route 10 from Limestone Road south of Old Racetrack Road. The Mazda driver reported minor damage but no injuries.
Another crash occurred February 10 in Londonderry Township at the intersection of Street Road and Faggs Manor Road. Police said a Subaru Outback allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a roundabout traffic sign before leaving the roadway. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed. One driver was transported to ChristianaCare with injuries of unknown severity.
Police also reported a DUI-related traffic stop February 14 at about 11:05 p.m. in the 100 block of East Third Street in Avondale Borough. According to state police, troopers conducted the stop and arrested a 29-year-old Avondale man after determining the driver was allegedly under the influence. The vehicle involved was a 2013 Acura TSX.
Another DUI arrest occurred February 15 following a crash investigation on State Route 896 south of Allismer Drive in Penn Township. Police said a 22-year-old woman from Townsend, Delaware, was taken into custody after troopers responded to the crash and determined the driver was allegedly impaired.
In Penn Township on February 21 at about 3:07 p.m., troopers responded to the 10 block of Irving Drive for a reported trespassing incident involving a 48-year-old West Grove man. State police said the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities also reported a juvenile assault investigation February 13 at Avon Grove High School in the 100 block of Waltman Way in Penn Township. Police said a 15-year-old girl from West Grove was listed as the victim in a reported simple assault. Troopers said the case remains under investigation.
On February 11 at about 9:32 a.m., troopers responded to Avon Grove Middle School at 257 State Road in London Grove Township for a report that a student had a pocketknife in a backpack. Police said the suspect was an 11-year-old boy from Avondale. Authorities reported no threats or injuries and said the investigation is continuing.
State police also reported a medical emergency on February 15 in the 100 block of Conner Road in Lower Oxford Township. According to troopers, they responded to a cardiac arrest and family members were notified. The Chester County Coroner’s Office later released the body to Edward Collins Funeral Home.
Police additionally reported a missing person investigation January 30 at about 11:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Halle Drive in East Marlborough Township involving a 62-year-old woman from Kennett Square. State police said the investigation remains ongoing.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
