Drug Activity Leads to Two Arrests on Wilmington Street

WILMINGTON, DE — Two men were taken into custody Thursday morning after police said they observed suspected drug activity in the city.

According to Wilmington Police, members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division were in the 500 block of West 7th Street at approximately 11:55 a.m. on March 26 when they observed two men allegedly engaged in drug-related activity.

Police reported making contact with Daywan Wright, 34, and Kanye Purnell, 22, both of whom were taken into custody without incident. Officers said they recovered approximately 2.9 grams of crack cocaine and 27.5 grams of marijuana.

According to authorities, Wright has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and second-degree conspiracy. Police said he was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.
