Driver Accused of DUI After Two Pedestrians Struck

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested a 42-year-old woman following a hit-and-run crash that left one pedestrian critically injured and another hospitalized.

Police said officers with the Uniformed Services Division responded at approximately 9:51 a.m. February 28 to the area of West 4th Street and North Harrison Street for a reported hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

According to Wilmington Police, officers located a 38-year-old woman in the roadway. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

During the investigation, officers located the suspected vehicle involved in a second collision near West 4th Street and North Rodney Street. Police said a second victim, a 39-year-old woman, was located and transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified by police as Cheryl Clark, 42. Police reported Clark was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

The case was assigned to the Wilmington Police Department’s Special Operations Traffic Unit. According to investigators, Clark was allegedly under the influence of drugs and speeding at the time of the incident.

Clark has been charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, vehicular assault first degree while driving under the influence and vehicular assault second degree while driving under the influence, police said.

According to Wilmington Police, Clark was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $64,000 cash-only bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
