Dover Man Accused of Early Morning Burglary Attempt in Newark

NEWARK, DEDelaware State Police arrested Kevin Johnson, 63, of Dover, on May 1, 2025, in connection with an alleged attempted burglary at a residential property in Newark.

Troopers responded around 3:40 a.m. to a home on the 1000 block of Old Churchmans Road following a report of an unknown individual trying to enter an occupied residence. On arrival, they encountered the suspect on the property. Authorities stated that Johnson initially resisted verbal commands but was eventually taken into custody.

During the investigation, police determined that Johnson had attempted to enter the residence, causing damage to the door, and had also tried to gain entry into a shed on the property. While in custody, Johnson allegedly provided a false name, but troopers were able to confirm his identity through investigative efforts.

Johnson was charged with the following offenses:

  • Attempted to Commit Burglary 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Provide False Statement to Law Enforcement with Intent to Delay/Hinder Investigation of a Felony (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Criminal Mischief Under $1,000

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $7,000 secured bond.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
