Delaware Police Investigate Alleged Headstone Scam at Bear Funeral Business

Delaware State Police

BEAR, DE — The Delaware State Police have launched an investigation into multiple alleged thefts involving unfulfilled headstone orders at a Bear-based burial vault business, and are now seeking additional victims who may have been affected.

According to authorities, troopers responded on July 4, 2025, to a report of suspected fraud at Tyson F. Sartin, Inc./Sartin Memorials, located at 4376 Kirkwood Saint Georges Road in Bear. The complaint centered on a contract for a headstone that was reportedly paid in full and scheduled for installation by March 2025, but had not been completed as of June.

Investigators say the victims made numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact the business after the agreed-upon delivery date passed. During the course of the inquiry, police uncovered evidence suggesting that other customers may have also paid for headstones as early as 2023, but never received the products or services promised.
