WEST CHESTER, PA — Authorities have announced the arrest of a Coatesville man in connection to a fatal stabbing that occurred outside the Midway Bar in Chester County last month.
On June 4, 2025, Darrick Coleman, 54, was apprehended and charged with First-Degree Murder and related offenses for the alleged killing of 36-year-old Stephen Johnson in the late evening hours of May 16. Following his arraignment by Magisterial District Judge Gregory Hines, Coleman was remanded to Chester County Prison without bail.
According to officials, officers were alerted to the incident by bystanders near the Midway Bar on East Lincoln Highway. Upon arrival, they found Johnson lying on the ground with a puncture wound to the chest, near his heart. Emergency responders transported Johnson to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The investigation, led by the City of Coatesville Police Department and supported by Chester County Detectives, utilized surveillance footage, fingerprint evidence, witness accounts, and additional findings to identify Coleman as the alleged perpetrator.
“This kind of violence is simply unacceptable. We will do everything we can to get justice for the victim and his family,” stated Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.
City of Coatesville Police Chief Jack Laufer praised the collaboration between law enforcement agencies, noting their efforts to bring the case to resolution.
Deputy District Attorney Christopher Mowery has been assigned as the prosecutor in this matter.
