AVONDALE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police in Avondale responded to a wide range of incidents across southern Chester County over several days in mid-January, including multiple vehicle crashes, reported thefts and fraud, school-related investigations, and domestic incidents, according to a multi-incident activity report released by the barracks.
Several motor vehicle crashes were documented across the coverage area. On January 17, 2026, at approximately 4:52 p.m., troopers investigated a two-vehicle crash on Gum Tree Road, west of Acker Road, in Highland Township. Police reported that a 2002 Chevrolet Astro van and a Jeep Grand Cherokee were involved. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene. Multiple occupants were transported by West Grove Fire Company Ambulance Division to area hospitals, including Christiana Hospital and Dupont Hospital, with injuries described as unknown in severity. Citations were issued to both drivers as a result of the crash.
Another crash was reported on January 16, 2026, at approximately 6:03 p.m. on Newark Road in West Marlborough Township. Troopers said a Toyota Corolla and a Lexus ES250 collided head-on, causing disabling damage to both vehicles. The drivers, identified as a 22-year-old woman from Coatesville and a 24-year-old man from Oxford, reported no injuries at the scene. Both vehicles were blocking the roadway and were removed by tow services.
Additional traffic incidents included a three-vehicle crash on Limestone Road in Highland Township on January 11, 2026, at approximately 10:33 a.m. Police said a Honda Civic, Volkswagen Jetta, and Toyota 4Runner were involved when one vehicle failed to stop in time for slowing traffic. No injuries were reported, and citations were issued. A separate single-vehicle crash occurred on U.S. 1 North near the Kennett Oxford Bypass on January 11, 2026, where a Subaru Crosstrek struck a sign after leaving the roadway. The driver reported no injuries and was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
Troopers also investigated several alleged theft and fraud-related incidents. On January 16, 2026, police were dispatched to Heatheridge Way in East Nottingham Township for a report of a missing Amazon package containing Air Jordan shoes valued at $420.95. The case remains under investigation. Later that day, at approximately 5:55 p.m., troopers responded to Fulton Bank on Commons Drive in Oxford Township after two black males allegedly attempted to withdraw more than $11,000 from a victim’s account using a Visa debit card. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the suspects fled in a black Chevrolet Tahoe. That investigation is ongoing.
Retail theft was also reported on January 16, 2026, at approximately 7:11 p.m. at a CVS Pharmacy on West Baltimore Pike in Penn Township. Police said store management reported that multiple unidentified females allegedly removed a variety of cosmetics valued at approximately $1,306.06. The suspects left before troopers arrived, and the case remains open.
Other incidents included a report of a possible burglary on Fremont Road in West Nottingham Township, where a 67-year-old Oxford man reported cold air entering his residence on January 15, 2026, prompting an investigation. Troopers also handled a reported domestic incident on Oxford Circle in Penn Township on January 14, 2026, involving a 25-year-old man from West Grove and a 23-year-old woman from Coatesville. No charges were listed in the report, and the investigation remains pending.
School-related investigations were also documented. On January 15, 2026, troopers investigated alleged terroristic threats reported at Charles F. Patton Middle School in Penn Township after an anonymous Safe2Say tip claimed a juvenile student had made comments about harming others. Police reported the investigation determined the student had no intention of harming anyone. Another school-related incident was reported on January 12, 2026, at Unionville High School in East Marlborough Township involving multiple students and one adult. That investigation is ongoing.
State police also responded to reports of a missing juvenile in Elk Township on January 12, 2026, and a reported identity theft complaint at the Avondale barracks lobby later that same day.
Police noted that many of the incidents remain under investigation and that details may change as additional information becomes available. All criminal activity described in the report represents allegations. Any individual identified as a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
