AVONDALE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police at the Avondale barracks investigated a series of unrelated incidents across southern Chester County in recent days, ranging from multiple traffic crashes to a death investigation and a report of suspicious mail, according to a multi-incident press release issued this week.

State police reported responding to several traffic crashes between January 17 and January 22 in Londonderry, West Nottingham, Lower Oxford, Elk, Franklin, Penn, and West Bradford townships. Many of the crashes occurred during early morning or evening hours and involved alleged unsafe driving behaviors, snow- or ice-covered road conditions, and failures to obey traffic control devices.

One crash on January 17 at approximately 8:46 p.m. occurred on Gap Newport Pike in Londonderry Township, where investigators allege a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection, resulting in a collision. Police reported no injuries, and a citation was issued in connection with the alleged violation.

Another crash was reported January 22 at approximately 1:48 p.m. on Route 1 south of Route 10 in Lower Oxford Township. State police allege one vehicle failed to yield while turning left, causing a collision that disabled both vehicles. No injuries were reported.

Troopers also investigated multiple crashes involving alleged loss of control due to snowy or icy conditions, including a January 18 incident on Barren Road in Elk Township, where a vehicle struck a guide rail and sustained disabling damage. The driver was cited for allegedly operating a vehicle without a valid license, police said.

In West Nottingham Township, a two-vehicle crash was reported January 22 at approximately 7:41 a.m. on Christine Road at Baltimore Pike. Investigators allege one driver failed to make a proper left turn, causing a collision. Both vehicles were towed, and no injuries were reported.

Beyond traffic incidents, state police are investigating a death discovered on January 27 at a residence on High Point Road in West Fallowfield Township. According to police, a 79-year-old man was found unresponsive in his home. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. No cause of death was released, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police said a urine-soaked sweater was discovered inside the package. The origin and intent of the mailing remain under investigation.

Additional crashes documented in the report include a hit-and-run incident on Appleton Road in Franklin Township on January 17 and a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 1 in Penn Township on January 11 that resulted in one passenger being transported to a Delaware hospital for evaluation.

State police emphasized that the information released reflects preliminary findings and that investigations into each incident remain ongoing.
