WYOMISSING, PA — Wyomissing police responded to a steady stream of calls throughout Friday, January 23, handling traffic stops, crashes, alarms, and a major drug task force operation, according to the department’s incident log released this week.
Police activity began shortly before 3:00 a.m., when officers conducted multiple traffic stops on Spring Street and Route 422 for equipment and vehicle code violations. In both cases, drivers were warned and released without further enforcement, police said.
By early morning, officers were dispatched to several burglar alarm activations, including locations on Parkside Drive North and Ridgewood Road. In each case, police reported the alarms were accidental or false, and no criminal activity was found.
At approximately 9:16 a.m., officers responded to an automatic fire alarm on Berkshire Boulevard. Police said the activation was linked to a broken pipe that caused water to spread throughout the building. The incident was turned over to the Wyomissing Fire Department.
Between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., Wyomissing police assisted the Berks County District Attorney’s drug task force while executing a search warrant on Reading Boulevard. Police did not release additional details about that investigation.
Later in the morning, officers responded to a report of a natural gas odor on Park Road North shortly after 11:00 a.m. Fire personnel handled the situation and secured the scene, according to police.
Just after noon, officers were called to several incidents in rapid succession, including a report of a reckless driver on Berkshire Boulevard that had left the area, and a reportable crash on Papermill Road. In that crash, police said a vehicle struck a tree and two parked vehicles. The driver was transported to Reading Hospital by ambulance, and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Additional non-reportable crashes were investigated on Berkshire Boulevard throughout the afternoon, with police indicating no injuries and information exchanged between drivers.
During the early afternoon, officers also responded to reports involving a homeless individual in a wheelchair on Crossing Drive and a disorderly conduct complaint on George Avenue near Penn Avenue. In both cases, police reported no further action was required.
As evening approached, officers handled a disabled vehicle on Route 422, assisted West Reading police with an incident in their jurisdiction, and responded to multiple additional crashes, alarms, and suspicious person calls across the borough.
Between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., police investigated several burglar alarms on Berkshire Boulevard that were ultimately determined to be false. Officers also responded to reports of suspicious activity involving individuals soliciting money, a suspicious U-Haul vehicle, and a vehicle that struck a building on Knitting Mills Drive. Police said no injuries were reported in the building strike, and the vehicle was safely removed.
Late in the evening, officers conducted additional traffic stops on Bern Road and State Hill Road for alleged traffic signal and stop sign violations, issuing warnings and citations. Police also checked several reports of suspicious vehicles and parking complaints before clearing the final call shortly after 10:00 p.m.
In total, Wyomissing police documented 27 incidents during the 24-hour period, reflecting a mix of traffic enforcement, emergency responses, and public safety calls.
All incidents involving potential criminal or traffic violations are allegations. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
