HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that a convicted sex offender from Elk County has been sentenced to state prison for persistent violations of probation, including refusal to complete sex offender treatment, unauthorized internet use, and unsanctioned travel out of state.

Jeffrey Cauvel, 59, was originally convicted in 2017 for possessing and distributing child pornography. Prosecutors from the Office of Attorney General’s Child Predator Section brought the latest charges after Cauvel repeatedly failed to comply with court-ordered conditions. An Elk County judge sentenced him to two to five years in state prison.

Violations included failure to complete mandated sex offender treatment, viewing adult pornography, drug use, unsupervised contact with minors, and leaving the state without permission. Prosecutors noted that Cauvel was discharged from treatment after engaging in unsupervised interactions with minors.

“Convicted sex offenders are required to abide by court-ordered conditions, to promote rehabilitation and ensure the safety of the public,” said Attorney General Sunday. “This individual has refused to complete sex offender treatment as well as a number of other conditions. I commend our partners with probation and parole for assisting in this recent sentencing, which should send a message that such violations cannot and will not be ignored.”

Cauvel had previously violated probation in 2023 and was re-sentenced at that time to an additional term of supervision.
