Claymont Teen Accused of Carrying Stolen Gun, Large Amount of Marijuana in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested a 17-year-old male from Claymont on multiple firearm and drug-related charges following a traffic stop last week.

According to authorities, the arrest occurred on August 9 at approximately 5:51 p.m., when members of the Safe Streets Task Force conducted a vehicle stop for a moving violation in the 3900 block of Shipley Street.

Police allege that during the stop, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, 9mm ammunition, 282 grams of marijuana, and drug packaging materials. The firearm was later determined to have been reported stolen out of Butler, Pennsylvania.

The juvenile has been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance, and receiving a stolen firearm, in addition to traffic violations.

He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $46,100 secured bail.

Police remind the public that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
