Caught on Camera: Armed Carjackers Strike at Philadelphia Gas Station, Police Seek Suspects

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two individuals involved in a violent carjacking that took place in the early morning hours of July 17 in Philadelphia’s Northwest section.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department’s Northwest Detective Division, the incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. at a gas station located at 1440 Cheltenham Avenue. A woman reported being confronted by two masked individuals while she was seated in her vehicle at a gas pump.

Investigators say the two suspects—described as Black males dressed in all black clothing and wearing masks—approached the vehicle and forced the woman out at gunpoint. One of the suspects reportedly entered the victim’s car and drove off, while the second suspect returned to the black Chevrolet sedan in which they had arrived and fled the scene heading west on Cheltenham Avenue.

Surveillance footage captured the suspects’ vehicle, a black Chevrolet sedan, entering the station from 15th Street prior to the carjacking. The footage is currently under review as part of the ongoing investigation.

The police are urging anyone who may recognize the suspects or have information related to the case to come forward. Tips can be submitted confidentially by calling 215-686-TIPS (8477). Tipsters may also contact the Northwest Detective Division directly at 215-686-3353 or 215-686-3354. Authorities emphasize that if the suspects are seen, they should not be approached. Instead, the public is advised to contact 911 immediately.
