Caught in the Act: Wilmington Police Nab Suspect Moments After Downtown Burglary

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police arrested a man early Wednesday morning after responding to a burglary in progress in the city’s downtown.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on September 10 at approximately 12:47 a.m., when an officer was dispatched to the area of 5th and Market Streets for a reported burglary. Responding units soon located 60-year-old Michael Brooks, who was found in possession of property that had allegedly been taken during the break-in.

Police identified Brooks as a suspect and charged him with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief under $1,000, and theft under $1,500. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $5,000 secured bail.

All charges are allegations, and Brooks is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
