WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing multiple felony charges after an investigation into an alleged carjacking earlier this month, police said.
According to Wilmington Police, officers responded at approximately 5:48 p.m. March 22, 2026, to the 4000 block of Miller Road for a reported carjacking.
Police reported that on March 23, officers located the stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle allegedly fled. Authorities said the vehicle was later found unoccupied in the 800 block of North Shipley Street.
The investigation was assigned to Detective Michael Chambers of the Criminal Investigations Division, who, according to police, identified 26-year-old Jamal Whittlesey as the suspect and obtained arrest warrants.
Authorities said probation and parole officers located Whittlesey at approximately 10:30 a.m. March 31, 2026, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Police reported Whittlesey was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and second-degree conspiracy.
According to authorities, he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $91,000 cash-only bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
