Busy New Year Start Keeps Wyomissing Police Responding to Dozens of Calls

WYOMISSING, PAWyomissing police officers handled a wide range of alleged incidents during January 1 and January 2, 2026, responding to more than 40 calls that included traffic violations, recovered vehicles, domestic-related reports, alarms, and assistance to neighboring departments, according to a department incident summary.

On Thursday, January 1, officers documented the recovery of a stolen vehicle on Reading Boulevard after a pursuit and crash that had occurred earlier in the City of Reading. Several teenage occupants from Reading and Muhlenberg were apprehended by Reading Police, who assumed responsibility for the investigation and any related charges.

Multiple traffic stops were conducted throughout the day, primarily along Penn Avenue, Route 222, and State Hill Road. Police issued a mix of warnings and citations for alleged violations, including red light infractions, lighting issues, speeding, expired registration, and traffic signal violations. In one late-night incident on Route 422 near North Wyomissing Boulevard, officers terminated a traffic stop after a vehicle allegedly fled at a high rate of speed, citing safety concerns.

Police also responded to several non-criminal service calls. These included reports of deteriorating road conditions during a snow squall, debris on roadways, disabled vehicles, and multiple 911 hang-up calls that were later determined to be accidental or unfounded. Wyomissing Fire Department and EMS handled several medical and alarm-related calls, including a carbon monoxide alarm on Hill Avenue and automatic fire alarms in Wyomissing and West Lawn.

A death investigation was reported the morning of January 1 on Grandview Boulevard near Wyomissing Hills Boulevard in West Lawn. Police classified the call as a death investigation and conducted a follow-up, though no additional details were released in the incident listing.

Officers were also dispatched to several domestic-related calls over the two-day period. These included welfare checks, documentation requests, and reports of domestic disputes where one party had left prior to police arrival. In at least one case, officers determined no further action was required after speaking with the involved parties.

Wyomissing police assisted other agencies as well, including providing support to the Shillington Police Department during an alleged theft in progress involving skills machines, where a suspect was taken into custody by the requesting department. Officers also assisted the Berks County District Attorney’s Office with a narcotics search warrant in West Reading, which concluded without further action.

Other calls included reports of suspicious persons and vehicles, parking complaints, disorderly conduct involving juveniles who left the area without incident, fireworks complaints near borough borders, and welfare checks requested by concerned family members.

All reported incidents remain allegations or preliminary police activity. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant referenced or potentially identified in connection with these incidents is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
