Burglary Case Breaks Weeks Later as Wilmington Police Make Arrest

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested a city man following an investigation into an alleged burglary reported last month on South Jackson Street.

According to police, officers with the Uniformed Services Division responded around 11:44 a.m. on November 6 to the 200 block of South Jackson Street after a burglary was reported. The case was later assigned to Detective Joran Merced of the Criminal Investigations Division.

Investigators allege that through the course of the investigation, Detective Merced identified 43-year-old David Smith as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. On December 6, police located Smith in the 300 block of North Adams Street and took him into custody without incident.

Smith has been charged with third-degree burglary, theft of $1,500 or greater, conspiracy in the second degree, theft under $1,500, and criminal mischief under $1,000. All charges are allegations filed by law enforcement.

Smith was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $5,632 unsecured bail pending further court proceedings.

As with all criminal cases, a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
