NEW CASTLE, DE — A physical altercation in the Manor Park neighborhood on Wednesday evening, June 4, 2025, left two men injured and resulted in one arrest, according to the New Castle County Division of Police.

Officers responded to a residence on the unit block of Lea Road at approximately 7:41 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a 37-year-old male inside the home with gunshot wounds to his face, as well as 31-year-old Kyle Schaal of Wilmington outside with injuries to his head and face. Both men were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined that Schaal had come to the residence allegedly intending to confront another individual. Instead, he encountered the 37-year-old male victim, and a physical altercation ensued in the yard. During the struggle, Schaal reportedly produced a handgun and shot the victim in the face. The victim reportedly managed to seize control of the weapon before retreating into the home. Schaal’s injuries are said to have resulted from the fight rather than the firearm.

Following his release from the hospital, Schaal was taken into custody and charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor offenses, including first-degree attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, strangulation, and multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution on $568,001 cash bail.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Unit are continuing their inquiries. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Detective Donovan of the New Castle County Division of Police.
