SHARON HILL, PA — Sharon Hill Borough police say a reported attempted carjacking Friday afternoon escalated into a second violent encounter in a neighboring community before officers located and arrested a suspect following a multi-agency response.
According to the Sharon Hill Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. to the intersection of Chester Pike and Clifton Avenue after receiving a report of an attempted carjacking. Patrol officers arrived and spoke with the victim and witnesses, who provided a description of the individual allegedly involved.
Police said officers later identified the suspect as 42-year-old Marc Tunstall. A short distance away in Folcroft, officers located Tunstall after he allegedly attempted to carjack another person and assaulted an uninvolved bystander who was pumping gas. Authorities described the bystander as an innocent party with no connection to the earlier incident.
Tunstall was taken into custody and charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, and harassment. He was subsequently transferred to Chester County Prison, police said.
The Sharon Hill Police Department credited the Folcroft Police Department, Darby Township Police Department, and Darby Borough Police Department for assisting in the response. Chief of Police Richard Herron Jr. acknowledged the coordinated effort among departments in bringing the incident to a close.
The incident occurred within Sharon Hill Borough, Delaware County, with the initial reported attempted carjacking taking place at Chester Pike and Clifton Avenue. Police classified the case as a robbery-related incident.
All charges are allegations. Tunstall is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
