WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police announced the arrests of two women following a months-long narcotics investigation that uncovered significant quantities of methamphetamine.
Authorities say 26-year-old Jamiyah Dennis of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, and 19-year-old Kaliyah Barnes of Newark, Delaware, were taken into custody on September 8 after detectives linked them to large-scale meth distribution in New Castle County.
Investigators allege that Dennis had previously sold undercover officers more than 300 grams of methamphetamine over the course of several months. Detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest earlier this month. When officers attempted to serve that warrant in Wilmington, Dennis reportedly tried to flee on foot while carrying a plastic bag containing suspected narcotics. Troopers said she resisted arrest and kicked an officer while being placed in a police vehicle.
During a search, officers recovered roughly 456 grams of methamphetamine. Barnes, who allegedly drove Dennis to the meeting location, was also arrested a short time later without incident.
Dennis faces multiple felony charges, including seven counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, resisting arrest with force, and offensive touching of a law enforcement officer. She was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $212,000 cash bond.
Barnes was charged with felony drug and conspiracy offenses and is being held at the same facility on a $45,000 cash bond.
Both women are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Delaware State Police said the investigation was conducted with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations and the Delaware County Narcotics Unit.
