WILMINGTON, DE — A 37-year-old Wilmington woman has been arrested following an aggravated menacing incident involving law enforcement during an ongoing investigation.
On May 8, at around 8:45 p.m., police and Department of Justice officials were in the 2100 block of North Church Street, investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 800 block of East 22nd Street. While on the scene, officers were approached by a disorderly woman, later identified as Nakia Jones, who allegedly made threats to officers and stated she was armed.
Authorities reported that Jones displayed a firearm, pointing it at officers and Department of Justice personnel. Officers issued verbal commands, prompting Jones to comply and drop the weapon. She was taken into custody without further incident, and two loaded 9mm handguns were recovered at the scene.
Jones has been charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing (eight counts), offensive touching of a law enforcement officer (two counts), and endangering the welfare of a child (three counts), among other charges. Following her arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 20, Jones was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $61,000 cash-only bail.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
