Armed Carjacking Sparks Manhunt After Suspects Ditch Stolen Car

WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery and carjacking that unfolded Wednesday night at a Wilmington shopping center before the suspects fled on foot and disappeared into the city.

According to state police, troopers were called at approximately 8:30 p.m. on January 28 to the 1900 block of Maryland Avenue after a report of an armed robbery. Investigators said two male suspects, allegedly armed with handguns, approached a man who was sitting inside his Toyota Corolla.

Police said the suspects ordered the victim out of the vehicle and forced him to lie on the ground. One of the suspects allegedly stole cash from the victim before both men drove away in the Toyota. Authorities said the victim was not injured during the encounter.

Nearly an hour later, troopers located the stolen Corolla near East 27th Street and Rosemont Avenue. Police said two men were inside the vehicle, but when they noticed a patrol car, they ran from the area, abandoning the car. The suspects were not immediately apprehended.

The suspects were described as males with slim builds, believed to be between 16 and 20 years old. Police said both were wearing dark-colored clothing and ski masks at the time of the incident.
