Amazon Employee Charged in $50,000 Theft Scheme at Bethel Distribution Center

Arrest

HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Dave Sunday announced charges against a 27-year-old Amazon employee accused of stealing more than $50,000 worth of merchandise from a distribution center in Bethel Township.

Nilson Peralta Rodriguez has been charged with felony counts of corrupt organizations, organized retail theft, and related offenses. Investigators allege Rodriguez repeatedly stole electronics while working at the facility, including 35 computer tablets and other high-value items.

Authorities said Rodriguez was caught this week attempting to leave the distribution center with 34 gaming memory sticks hidden inside his work helmet. Police believe he planned to sell the stolen goods on the secondary market for profit.

Attorney General Sunday said, “Our Organized Retail Crime Unit targets high-dollar theft schemes, like this one, which ultimately contribute to consumers paying higher prices for goods. With recent legislative changes, the prosecution of these cases involve harsher penalties which send a deterrent message to potential offenders.”

The Bethel Township Police Department assisted with the investigation. Rodriguez was arraigned, and the case will be prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Kelsey Ashworth of the Organized Retail Crime Unit.

Criminal charges, and any discussion thereof, are merely allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
