WYOMISSING, PA — Wyomissing police officers responded to a wide-ranging series of incidents on Sunday, December 21, including a vehicle crash that sent an officer to the hospital, alleged thefts, traffic violations, and multiple assists to neighboring departments, according to a department incident log released this week.
One of the most serious incidents occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Chestnut Street near Fifth Avenue in West Reading, where a marked Wyomissing police vehicle was struck by another vehicle that allegedly ran a red light. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and the police vehicle was taken to the borough garage. The officer involved was transported to Reading Hospital Medical Center for evaluation. West Reading Police were assigned to complete the accident investigation.
Earlier in the morning, officers assisted West Reading police with an alleged weapons-related incident on Third Avenue, where a man was reported to have pulled a knife on security personnel. No further details on charges or injuries were released.
Police also reported an attempted traffic stop on Route 422 near North Wyomissing Boulevard after midnight when a vehicle allegedly fled at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle, citing safety concerns due to reckless driving.
Throughout the day, officers handled numerous traffic stops, resulting in warnings and citations for alleged violations including expired registration, lack of insurance, window tint infractions, driving under suspension, and driving without a license. Several burglar alarms were investigated across the borough, all of which were determined to be false alarms or canceled prior to police arrival.
Additional calls included reports of suspicious vehicles, 911 hang-up calls, a hit-and-run incident involving a parked police vehicle in Reading, and an alleged theft of services on Woodland Road, where a man reportedly left a restaurant without paying after his payment card was declined.
In the evening hours, Wyomissing police assisted Shillington and West Reading officers with alleged domestic-related incidents. In one Shillington case, a male was taken into custody following a reported physical domestic dispute. In West Reading, officers responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment building, where the involved male reportedly left the residence voluntarily for the night.
Police also responded to a reported attempted theft involving a juvenile on Crossing Drive, where a young female was allegedly observed attempting to remove signs from a fallen street sign post. The juvenile was released to a parent at the scene.
Authorities emphasized that all criminal matters described remain allegations. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The incident log reflects a total of 26 calls for service handled by the Wyomissing Police Department over the course of the day, highlighting what officials described as a demanding and eventful shift for officers across the borough.
