NEWARK, DE — A Newark woman is accused of assaulting a trooper during a stolen vehicle investigation Wednesday evening, according to Delaware State Police.

Troopers reported that at approximately 6:15 p.m. on April 8, 2026, they responded to the Christiana Mall for a report of a stolen Toyota Camry.

According to investigators, the vehicle was later tracked to the unit block of Jamison Street, where troopers located it and observed a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Rebecca Weatherly, allegedly entering the vehicle and removing items.

Police said troopers approached Weatherly and attempted to take her into custody, at which point she allegedly resisted and struck a trooper, causing non-life-threatening injuries.

Weatherly was taken into custody without further incident, and troopers reported locating keys to the stolen vehicle during a search.

Authorities said Weatherly was transported to Troop 6, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $3,500 cash bail.

She is charged with second-degree assault involving injury to a law enforcement officer, receiving stolen property valued over $1,500, and resisting arrest with force or violence, police reported.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
