Teens Accused After Stolen SUV Found at New Castle Wawa

NEW CASTLE, DE — Two juveniles were taken into custody Monday afternoon after police said they were connected to a stolen vehicle found at a gas station in New Castle.

According to Delaware State Police, a trooper was patrolling near the Wawa at 4000 North Dupont Highway at approximately 4:45 p.m. April 6 when a stolen Toyota Highlander was located parked at a gas pump.

Police reported the vehicle was occupied by a male driver and a female passenger. According to investigators, the driver, later identified as a 17-year-old male, exited the vehicle and walked behind the store, where he met with additional teenagers.

Authorities said that as the trooper approached, the group fled on foot, and a pursuit followed.

According to police, the 17-year-old was apprehended and allegedly resisted arrest, causing non-life-threatening injuries to the trooper during the incident.

Investigators reported that during the arrest, a 15-year-old female passenger allegedly approached and caused a disturbance before fleeing the scene.

Police said the 15-year-old was later located by New Castle County Police walking along a nearby street and taken into custody without incident.

According to authorities, investigators determined the female allegedly knew the vehicle had been reported stolen. Both juveniles were transported to Troop 2.

Police reported the 17-year-old has been charged with receiving stolen property over $1,500, resisting arrest with violence that injures a peace officer, conspiracy second degree, and offensive touching of a law enforcement officer. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families on $7,000 secured bail.

Authorities said the 15-year-old has been charged with receiving stolen property, conspiracy second degree, and disorderly conduct. She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $2,100 unsecured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
