Teen Charged in Shooting That Wounded 15-Year-Old Girl

WILMINGTON, DE — A 16-year-old male has been charged in connection with a shooting that left a teenage girl injured last month in Wilmington.

According to Wilmington Police, officers responded at approximately 5:40 p.m. on March 10 to the 800 block of West 6th Street for a reported shooting.

Police reported that a 15-year-old female was located with a gunshot wound and transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Authorities said the case was assigned to Detective Avery Stewart of the Criminal Investigations Division, who, according to investigators, identified a 16-year-old male from Newark as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.

Police reported the suspect, who was also wanted on an unrelated matter in another jurisdiction, was located on April 1 in the area of 5th and Madison streets and taken into custody without incident.

According to investigators, the juvenile has been charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm on a city street.

Police stated the suspect was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $139,000 cash-only bail.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
