Teen Arrested After Gun With Switch Found During Stop

WILMINGTON, DE — An 18-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday evening after police said a loaded handgun equipped with a device capable of automatic fire was recovered during a traffic stop.

According to Wilmington Police, an officer with the Uniformed Services Division conducted a vehicle stop at approximately 7:59 p.m. on April 2 in the area of East 23rd and Carter streets.

Police reported the driver, identified as Ze’vion Ward, was taken into custody without incident.

According to investigators, officers allegedly recovered a loaded 9mm handgun equipped with a switch device capable of converting the firearm into a fully automatic weapon.

Authorities said Ward has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a destructive weapon, and possession of an untraceable firearm, in addition to traffic-related offenses.

Police reported that Ward was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released pending further proceedings.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
