State Police Report DUI Arrests, Theft Cases, and Fatality Investigation

AVONDALE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police in Avondale reported a series of incidents across Chester County from mid-March through Sunday, including multiple DUI arrests, theft and fraud investigations, a fleeing case, a pedestrian crash, and a death investigation, according to police records.

Police reported that the most recent incident occurred Sunday at approximately 4:56 a.m., when troopers conducted a traffic stop on Ellicott Road in New Garden Township. According to investigators, a 27-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after the stop.

Earlier, on Friday at approximately 4:34 a.m., state police investigated a two-vehicle crash at North 3rd Street and Commons Drive in Lower Oxford Township. Police said a Toyota Corolla turning left was struck by a Honda Civic traveling northbound. Both vehicles were damaged but operable, no injuries were reported, and one driver received a written warning.

Police also reported that on Friday at approximately 8:22 p.m., troopers responded to the area of Limestone Road and Station Road in Highland Township for a crash. According to investigators, a 48-year-old man from Hockessin, Delaware, was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, and charges were expected to be filed.

On Thursday at approximately 3 p.m., a 32-year-old woman from Kennett Square reported an alleged theft and fraud loss of $11,276 connected to Manor Drive in East Marlborough Township, police said. The report was taken at the Avondale station lobby on Moxley Road in London Grove Township, and the investigation remains pending.

Police reported a similar theft and fraud complaint Wednesday at approximately 5:35 p.m. involving an alleged $3,000 loss connected to Cochran Street in West Fallowfield Township. According to police, a 21-year-old woman from Cochranville made the report at the Avondale station, and the investigation remains pending.

Also Wednesday at approximately 10:30 p.m., troopers from the Avondale barracks were notified of a fleeing vehicle on South Dupont Parkway in Maryland. Police said the fleeing vehicle later attempted to ram a Rising Sun police officer. Troopers located the vehicle and apprehended a 45-year-old man from Elkton and a 34-year-old woman from Elkton, Maryland, according to the report.

On Tuesday at approximately 5:30 a.m., police responded to a car in the 1600 block of Gap Newport Pike in London Grove Township. According to investigators, a 49-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and was allegedly found in possession of drugs.

Police also reported that on Tuesday at approximately 2:31 p.m., a 52-year-old man from Landenberg reported an identity theft case on Crestview Road in London Britain Township involving a stolen Social Security number.

On Sunday, April 5, at approximately 1:11 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Gap Newport Pike in London Grove Township for a reported theft involving Wawa in Avondale. Police identified a 20-year-old man from Saint Albans, New York, in the report and said the investigation is ongoing.

Later that Sunday at approximately 9:57 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of Thoreau Court in Franklin Township. According to investigators, a 38-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, allegedly drove onto a victim’s lawn and caused a disturbance. Police said citations were issued and the investigation remains active.

On Saturday at approximately 1 a.m., troopers initiated a traffic stop on North Guernsey Road in London Grove Township. Police said a 26-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, taken to the Avondale station for a chemical breath test, processed, and remanded to Chester County Prison to await arraignment.

On Friday at approximately 1:58 a.m., troopers conducted a traffic stop on the 100 block of Caitlyn Court in New Garden Township. According to police, a 34-year-old man from Avondale was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Later that Friday at approximately 10:20 p.m., police reported a death investigation on the 700 block of Slate Hill Drive in East Nottingham Township. According to investigators, a man in his 50s was found dead of natural causes, and the body was released to the Chester County Coroner’s Office.

Police also reported that on Wednesday, April 1, at approximately 11:26 a.m., troopers responded to the 2200 block of Baltimore Pike in East Nottingham Township. According to the report, an 81-year-old man from New London allegedly removed his pants and defecated behind a business. PSP Avondale said the case remains under investigation.

On Tuesday, March 31, at approximately 5 p.m., a 39-year-old woman from Port Deposit, Maryland, reported an alleged theft and fraud loss of $1,500 tied to Redbud Drive in East Nottingham Township. State police said that investigation is pending.

On Monday, March 30, troopers responded to Limestone Road in Lower Oxford Township for a reported theft involving A-1 Mulch in Oxford, according to police. A separate incident that day on Limestone Road in Lower Oxford Township led to one man being cited for harassment after what police described as a physical altercation. Police identified the cited man as a 24-year-old from Chalfont and the other involved person as a 63-year-old from Pottstown.

On Sunday, March 29, at approximately 2:13 a.m., troopers working a nighttime detail in Lancaster City stopped a vehicle on the 100 block of South Prince Street. Police said a 40-year-old Lancaster woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, transported for a blood test, and later released under Rule 519.

Police also reported a crash Saturday, March 28, at approximately 1:31 p.m. on Blackburn Drive in East Nottingham Township involving an alleged theft and fraud case valued at $893.57, and a separate vehicle crash at approximately 4:58 p.m. on Village Drive in East Marlborough Township in which a vehicle struck a parked SUV. No injuries were reported in that crash, according to police.

In another crash Thursday, March 26, at approximately 3:19 p.m., police said a 15-year-old pedestrian from Atglen was struck on Fallowfield Road just south of Walter Road in West Fallowfield Township. According to the crash report, the teen was transported to the hospital with suspected minor injuries.

Police also reported that on Friday, March 20, at approximately 6:10 a.m., troopers responded to Christiana Hospital on West Baltimore Pike in Penn Township for a patient refusing to leave. According to investigators, a 41-year-old woman from Avondale was taken into custody and charged with defiant trespassing.

A final incident listed in the report occurred Saturday, March 14, when troopers were dispatched to Holly Drive in London Grove Township for a harassment complaint involving a 26-year-old woman from West Grove. Police said that investigation remains ongoing.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
