PENN TWP, PA — A serious two-vehicle crash in southern Chester County sent multiple people to area hospitals Wednesday morning, leaving two victims in critical condition and prompting an ongoing investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police Avondale Barracks, troopers were dispatched at approximately 10:58 a.m. to the intersection of Irving Drive and West Baltimore Pike in Penn Township following reports of a crash involving entrapment. Fire and emergency medical crews from several local departments also responded to the scene.
State police said one of the vehicles was occupied by seven individuals, while the second vehicle had a single occupant. Investigators allege that the driver of the first vehicle was traveling westbound on West Baltimore Pike and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Irving Drive, turning directly into the path of the eastbound second vehicle. The maneuver allegedly caused the two vehicles to collide.
As a result of the crash, two occupants from the first vehicle were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries and were listed in critical condition. Two additional occupants from the same vehicle, along with the lone occupant of the second vehicle, were taken to the hospital with what police described as minor injuries.
Police reported that the operator of the second vehicle was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators also reported that the driver and front-seat passenger of the first vehicle were wearing seatbelts, while five back-seat passengers were not restrained.
The crash remains under active investigation, and no charges have been announced. Authorities emphasized that any determination of fault or criminal liability remains pending as investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision.
All potential violations or criminal matters related to the crash are allegations. Any driver or individual involved is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
