ADELPHI, MD — University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and Cecil College have launched a new dual admission program aimed at simplifying the path to a bachelor’s degree for Cecil College students. This partnership enables students to gain simultaneous admission to both institutions, ensuring a streamlined transfer process and significant cost savings.

The program allows Cecil College students to transfer all credits earned during their associate degree directly toward a bachelor’s degree at UMGC. By offering seamless transfer credit, co-advising opportunities, and access to UMGC’s robust resources, the program focuses on eliminating administrative complications and accelerating degree completion.

“We are proud to partner with Cecil College to provide a proven pathway that can deliver cost savings and reduce the administrative burden for students,” said Chris Motz, Chief Partnerships Officer at UMGC. “Students can boost their momentum toward completion knowing they have already been accepted to UMGC and have a scholarship that will reduce the cost of their education.”

Students in the dual admission program will benefit from co-advising with UMGC advisors to ensure course alignment, access to UMGC’s career services, library resources, and no-cost digital learning materials, which replace traditional textbooks in most classes. Additionally, UMGC will waive its $50 undergraduate transfer application fee for Cecil College students.

Cecil College President Dr. Mary Way Bolt emphasized the importance of the partnership for the community. “This partnership aligns with our mission to provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality education to our community,” she stated. “By enabling students to seamlessly transfer credits and reduce the overall cost of a bachelor’s degree, we support their educational and career aspirations.”

The program builds upon UMGC’s innovative Maryland Completion Scholarship, which allows Maryland community college graduates to earn a bachelor’s degree for $12,000 or less. UMGC’s transfer-friendly policies are reflected in its growing enrollment, with 12,025 transfer students joining the university in fall 2024.

By providing students with a clear, affordable pathway to further their education, this partnership is poised to make a lasting impact not only on individuals but on the broader landscape of higher education.
