Younger Shoppers Bet on AI to Cut Thanksgiving Costs, Survey Finds

PHILADELPHIA, PA — New survey data from Qlik shows that younger Americans are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence to manage their Thanksgiving preparations, from grocery shopping to meal planning. The company’s latest research suggests AI is becoming a practical household tool — and for many, a way to save money.

According to the findings, 54% of respondents say they plan to use an AI platform such as ChatGPT or Copilot to help cook, plan, or prep for the holiday meal. Usage skews younger: 58% of Gen Z and 56% of Millennials expect to rely on AI, compared with 45% of Gen X and just 25% of Baby Boomers.

Beyond convenience, consumers see AI as a way to reduce both stress and costs. Nearly one-third of Americans anticipate saving 30 to 59 minutes on Thanksgiving prep with AI assistance. More than half say AI could help trim their holiday grocery budgets, with younger households estimating average savings of about $47. Nearly one in five respondents expect to save more than $50.

While AI is gaining ground in the kitchen, family remains the top source for cooking advice. Forty-four percent of Americans say they trust a relative or friend most for culinary guidance, followed by personal intuition at 25%. Traditional sources such as cookbooks or hotline resources ranked much lower at 11%.

Still, for specific holiday tasks, many consumers are comfortable outsourcing to algorithms. About one-third of respondents say they would rely on AI more than family to create shopping lists, and more than one-quarter plan to use AI to generate trivia or conversation starters for the dinner table — a sign that technology is becoming a familiar part of holiday traditions.

“Americans are showing us exactly where AI fits into their lives — it’s the helper, not the host,” said Mike Capone, CEO of Qlik. He said intuitive design and context-aware tools remain the key to broad adoption, whether applied to running a holiday kitchen or managing a business.

The survey was conducted by Censuswide among 2,000 nationally representative U.S. adults between October 31 and November 3, 2025.
