PHILADELPHIA, PA — Yards Brewing Company has announced the return of its signature event, the Real Ale Invitational, set to take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at its historic brewing facility located at 500 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia. This one-of-a-kind celebration will feature more than 40 unique cask-conditioned beers, live music, guided brewery tours, and a range of local food offerings.
Now in its 17th year, the Real Ale Invitational stands as the region’s only festival dedicated to Real Ale, a traditional brewing style recognized for its unfiltered, unpasteurized beer that undergoes natural carbonation inside a cask. Yards, a pioneer in reviving this centuries-old method, continues to showcase the beauty of Real Ale with their renowned Extra Special Ale (ESA), the company’s very first brew, and a staple on tap at the brewery.
“We’ve been producing real ale from the very beginning; in fact, ESA was the first beer we ever brewed as a company,” said Tom Kehoe, founder of Yards Brewing Company. “Our philosophy has always been to honor traditional styles and bring inspiring, quality beer to our community.”
The event will feature beers hand-selected from leading breweries across the Mid-Atlantic, including those from Philadelphia’s own Dock Street Brewery and Iron Hill Brewery, as well as notable names from Delaware and New Jersey like Big Oyster Brewery, Dewey Beer Company, Cape May Brewing, and Tonewood Brewing. Attendees can look forward to a dazzling array of innovations on this traditional brewing method, such as a habanero-watermelon pale ale, barrel-aged Belgian quads, and spiced English porters.
The atmosphere promises to be as memorable as the beer selection. Folk-rock duo Burnin’ Bridges will perform live, while guests enjoy small bites like soft pretzels from Philly Pretzel Factory and tomato pie from Marchiano Bakery, included with admission. For those looking to deepen their appreciation of Real Ale, Yards will offer complimentary brewery tours throughout the day.
Tickets for the Real Ale Invitational are priced at $50 and include admission, unlimited beer samples, live music, food, and a commemorative glass. For designated drivers, tickets are available for $20.
The festival embodies Yards Brewing Company’s community-driven ethos. “Bringing breweries together from across the region isn’t just about celebrating great beer,” said Kehoe. “It’s also about recognizing the shared history, passion, and creativity that drives our craft.”
With its blend of tradition and innovation, the 2025 Real Ale Invitational underscores Yards Brewing Company’s commitment to fostering community and celebrating craft beer. This year’s event promises to be an unforgettable experience for beer enthusiasts and casual attendees alike.
