WSFS Financial Names Bernard Shields as Pennsylvania Market President

WILMINGTON, DEWSFS Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: WSFS), the parent company of WSFS Bank, has appointed Bernard (Bernie) Shields as Executive Vice President and Pennsylvania Market President, further strengthening its leadership team as part of ongoing succession planning.

In his new role, Shields will report to Jim Wechsler, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Banking Officer, and will oversee growth and sales strategies across WSFS’ Pennsylvania markets. His focus will include developing new business, deepening client relationships, and supporting community engagement efforts across the region.

Shields succeeds Patrick (Pat) Ward, who will transition into the role of Executive Vice President, Senior Advisor. Ward will continue to support WSFS through business development, relationship management, and nonprofit partnerships across its regional footprint.

Wechsler also praised Ward’s tenure and continued involvement, noting, “Pat has been instrumental in our success, and we’re fortunate to have his continued guidance in his new role.”

A veteran banking executive with nearly 30 years of industry experience, Shields most recently served as Regional President for the Philadelphia and South Jersey markets at M&T Bank, where he spent more than two decades in leadership positions. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Saint Joseph’s University and a Juris Doctor from Temple University.

Active in community and civic engagement, Shields also serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations throughout the region. His appointment reflects WSFS’ commitment to strengthening its presence in Pennsylvania while maintaining its focus on long-term growth and relationship-based banking.
