WILMINGTON, DE — The WSFS CARES Foundation, the charitable arm of WSFS Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: WSFS), announced a $50,000 grant to Social Finance, Inc. to support the launch of the Family Housing Opportunities for Purposeful Empowerment Project (Family HOPE Project) in New Castle County. The initiative aims to provide stable housing and long-term support for families experiencing homelessness.
The grant will fund services for families staying at the New Castle County Hope Center, a former hotel transformed into a comprehensive housing facility during the pandemic. The Family HOPE Project provides extended stays, direct rental assistance, case management, and financial counseling to help families transition from temporary shelter to permanent housing.
“The Family HOPE Project will offer vital support for our community, and the WSFS CARES Foundation is committed to partnering with nonprofits that offer tangible support during a time of need,” said Patrick J. Ward, Executive Vice President and Senior Advisor at WSFS Bank, and Chairman of the WSFS CARES Foundation. “WSFS is also pleased to support the Hope Center through volunteer efforts, including during this year’s We Stand for Service Day.”
Social Finance, a national nonprofit, is collaborating with New Castle County to expand permanent housing access and reduce the number of families cycling through shelters. “We are grateful to partners like the WSFS CARES Foundation for amplifying the impact of the Family HOPE Project,” said Samantha Mignotte Christian, Director at Social Finance. “Their commitment provides crucial support needed to empower families to achieve long-term housing stability.”
The Hope Center serves more than 1,200 households annually, including veterans, seniors, and individuals with special needs. Nearly two-thirds of those households are families with children.
“The Hope Center has become a lifeline for hundreds of families in our community, and the Family HOPE Project represents the next step in helping them achieve long-term stability,” said New Castle County Executive Marcus Henry. “We’re grateful to the WSFS CARES Foundation for its partnership and investment in this effort.”
Through this partnership, WSFS continues its focus on community-based philanthropy, reinforcing its mission to support initiatives that promote housing security and financial empowerment across Delaware.
