MIDDLETOWN, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a Maryland man early Monday morning in Middletown.
According to investigators, the crash occurred on September 1, 2025, at approximately 1:40 a.m. on US Route 301 near Bunker Hill Road. Police said a Kenworth tractor was traveling southbound in the left lane when it collided head-on with a Ford Focus that was traveling northbound in the same southbound lane.
The driver of the Ford, identified only as a 31-year-old man from Elkton, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
The driver of the Kenworth, a 60-year-old man from Yonkers, New York, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in the Kenworth, a 62-year-old woman, also from Yonkers, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries as well.
Police said US Route 301 was closed for several hours while the Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted its investigation and cleared the roadway.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant information is asked to contact Corporal K.
