HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA — Polly’s Ice Cream & Espresso, a woman-owned business in Huntingdon Valley, PA, is celebrating World Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day on May 8th with a special giveaway. The shop, owned by 23-year-old entrepreneur Julia Bailey, will offer complimentary Famous 4th Street Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches to the first 100 customers. These decadent treats, made with locally produced Richman’s ice cream and sandwiched between two Famous 4th Street Cookies®, are normally sold at $7 each.
Bailey’s inspiration to pair her business with ovarian cancer awareness is deeply personal. “My grandmother Polly, whom the shop is named after, passed away from ovarian cancer in 1992. She was just 58 years old, so bringing awareness about the disease is very important to me,” Bailey shared.
Beyond the giveaway, customers are encouraged to make donations for the free desserts. Bailey plans to donate a portion of her 2025 sales to the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation and the Huntingdon Valley Fire Company. This initiative also honors Polly’s legacy of community involvement, as the Bailey family has long been active in volunteer firefighting.
“My entire family, Polly included, has been involved in the community volunteer fire service for decades,” Bailey explained. “Operating this location with friendly faces from the fire company around the corner has been extremely comforting.”
Bailey’s entrepreneurial story is just as inspiring as her commitment to her community. After earning a degree in Agricultural Business from Delaware Valley University, she purchased the shop last year, transforming it from Hick’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor to Polly’s Ice Cream & Espresso in tribute to her late grandmother. “When the chance to purchase this ice cream shop came up… my dad told me an inspirational story about how Polly once dreamed of opening her own ice cream parlor. That’s all I needed to hear,” Bailey said.
The event highlights Bailey’s mission to make an impact both locally and personally. “I’m doing this giveaway and fundraiser so that more kids will have more time with their mothers and grandmothers. I’m committed to making an impact in my community,” she concluded.
Polly’s Ice Cream & Espresso is located at 715 Fetters Mill Square in Huntingdon Valley. With its woman-owned, family-run approach, the shop continues to bring joy to the community, one scoop at a time.
