WILMINGTON, DE — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Wilmington man on gun charges late last week.

On February 22, at approximately 8:12 p.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force were patrolling the area of East 12th Street and Northeast Boulevard. They reportedly observed a vehicle committing multiple traffic violations and conducted a stop.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Lennell Preston, was found to be wanted on an unrelated matter and was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent investigation led to the recovery of a loaded .22 caliber handgun.

Preston has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, in addition to the traffic violations. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released after posting $5,000 secured bail.

As the case continues to unfold, it’s important to note that information may change as more details emerge. An arrest, a criminal complaint, or information about a suspect does not constitute a declaration of guilt. Every individual accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
