Widespread Lane Closures Set to Slow Center City as Line Striping Continues

Lane restrictions

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Motorists traveling through some of Philadelphia’s busiest corridors should brace for significant weekday delays as PennDOT continues line striping operations tied to its extensive resurfacing program across the region.

From Tuesday, December 2, through Friday, December 5, lane closures will be in place daily from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at multiple high-traffic locations:

  • Chestnut Street between 22nd Street and Broad Street (Route 611)
  • Walnut Street between Broad Street (Route 611) and 23rd Street
  • Oregon Avenue between Delaware Avenue and 15th Street
  • Penn Square (City Hall) between Market Street and Broad Street (Route 611)

PennDOT is urging drivers to allow extra travel time, warning of slowdowns and backups throughout the affected corridors. All work is weather dependent.

The operations are part of a broader effort to repair, mill, and repave more than 200 miles of state highway in the five-county region. The upgraded asphalt will seal road surfaces and improve long-term safety and drivability.
