WhiteHawk Energy to Acquire Haynesville Shale Natural Gas Assets

Business News

PHILADELPHIA, PA — WhiteHawk Energy LLC said its affiliate has entered into a definitive purchase and sale agreement to acquire natural gas mineral and royalty interests covering about 150,000 gross unit acres in the Haynesville Shale in Louisiana and east Texas.

The assets include interests tied to about 500 producing natural gas wells and roughly 1,000 wells in process, permitted wells and undeveloped drilling locations, according to the company.

WhiteHawk said the transaction is expected to close in early April 2026.

The company said the assets are located in core areas of the Haynesville basin and are operated by several natural gas producers, including Expand Energy, Apex Energy, Aethon Energy Management, GeoSouthern Energy and EXCO Resources.

“We are pleased to expand our core Haynesville footprint through the acquisition of high-quality mineral and royalty interests,” Chief Executive Officer Daniel Herz said.

Herz said the acquisition will increase the company’s exposure to natural gas development in Louisiana and Texas and strengthen its position in the Haynesville basin.

Following the acquisition, WhiteHawk said it will hold natural gas mineral and royalty interests across about 3.5 million gross unit acres, including more than 11,000 producing wells, about 500 wells in process or permitted and roughly 8,000 undeveloped locations.

The company said the acquisition is part of its strategy to expand mineral and royalty holdings in major U.S. natural gas basins, including the Haynesville and Marcellus shale formations.

WhiteHawk Energy focuses on acquiring mineral and royalty interests in natural gas resource plays and holds assets across the Appalachian and Haynesville basins, according to the company.

Latham & Watkins LLP served as legal counsel to WhiteHawk on the transaction.
