LANCASTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that weekend lane closures are planned on Route 222 for bridge slab repairs and roadway patching in East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County.
The restrictions will begin at 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, and continue through 6:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, weather permitting. Lane closures will affect both directions of Route 222 in the area of the bridge spanning Church Street (Route 1051), located between the Ephrata and Colonel Howard Boulevard interchanges. An 11-foot width restriction will be enforced during this time.
The work is part of a broader $7.7 million pavement preservation project covering Route 222 from Mohler Church Road to Colonel Howard Boulevard. Improvements include resurfacing, milling, base repairs, concrete patching, guide rail updates, line painting, and sign replacements. The project also involves constructing a new entrance to the northbound Route 222 weigh station between the Lancaster County line and the Adamstown/Knauers Exit in Berks County.
The contractor for the project is New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc., of New Enterprise, Pennsylvania. PennDOT expects all work to be completed by February 2, 2026.
Motorists are urged to remain alert and use caution when traveling through the work zone.
