Weekend Lane Closures Planned on Route 222 in Lancaster County for Bridge Repairs

Travel Restrictions

LANCASTER, PA — Motorists traveling on Route 222 in Lancaster County should prepare for lane closures next weekend as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) conducts bridge repair work.

Weather permitting, alternating lane restrictions will begin at 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, and continue through 6:00 a.m. Monday, September 8. Both northbound and southbound traffic will be affected between the Bushong Road and Pool Road overpasses, with an 11-foot width limit in place during the work.

The effort is part of a $8.5 million pavement preservation project covering a 3.3-mile stretch of Route 222 in Manheim, Warwick, and West Earl townships. Improvements include resurfacing, base repairs, concrete patching, guide rail upgrades, line painting, and sign replacements.

Most of the work has been finished, but PennDOT noted that additional overnight lane closures on southbound Route 222 will be needed in the coming weeks to complete remaining tasks. Weekend restrictions will also continue as crews repair bridge pavement and replace expansion joints.

The contractor for the project is New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, Pennsylvania. Completion is expected by October 20, 2025.

PennDOT urged drivers to remain alert and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone.
