LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — Drivers along U.S. 422 should prepare for renewed congestion next week as PennDOT resumes major roadway reconstruction on a heavily traveled stretch of the expressway in Montgomery County.
PennDOT announced that lane closures will be in place beginning Monday, January 12, through Friday, January 16, as crews continue work on an $83.6 million project to reconstruct and modernize U.S. 422 in Lower Pottsgrove Township.
From 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day, westbound lane closures are scheduled between the Sanatoga Interchange at Evergreen Road and the Hanover Street Interchange. Eastbound drivers will face lane closures on the same segment from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. PennDOT warned motorists to expect backups and delays during work hours and urged drivers to allow additional travel time. All activities are weather dependent.
The ongoing work is part of a long-term effort to reconstruct and improve approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway and replace aging bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road. PennDOT said the project is designed to improve safety, ride quality, and long-term reliability along a corridor that carries thousands of vehicles daily.
With weekday lane restrictions planned during daytime hours, traffic conditions are expected to fluctuate throughout the week. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and stay informed before traveling through the area.
