U.S. 422 Lane Closures Return, Choking Traffic Through Lower Pottsgrove

Travel Restrictions

LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — Drivers along one of Montgomery County’s busiest commuter routes are being warned to brace for another week of congestion as PennDOT presses ahead with a massive reconstruction of U.S. 422.

PennDOT announced that roadway reconstruction will continue next week on the expressway as part of an $83.6 million effort to rebuild and modernize 2.1 miles of highway and replace aging bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange at Evergreen Road and Porter Road.

From Monday, January 19, through Friday, January 23, periodic lane closures will be in place in both directions. Westbound U.S. 422 will see restrictions from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM between the Sanatoga and Hanover Street interchanges. Eastbound traffic will be affected from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM between the Hanover Street and Sanatoga interchanges.

PennDOT warned motorists to expect backups and delays throughout the work period and urged drivers to allow extra travel time. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The ongoing project is designed to improve safety, traffic flow, and long-term reliability on a stretch of highway that carries tens of thousands of vehicles daily and serves as a critical link between Pottstown and the greater Philadelphia region.

With weekday lane restrictions scheduled during peak daytime hours, travel times are expected to fluctuate sharply as construction continues. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and adjust travel schedules where possible while staying alert to changing conditions along the corridor.
