LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — Commuters on U.S. 422 should prepare for another week of significant slowdowns as PennDOT continues its long-term reconstruction of the busy Montgomery County expressway.
The agency announced that crews will return to the corridor next week to perform roadway reconstruction tied to an $83.6 million project aimed at rebuilding 2.1 miles of the highway and replacing multiple bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.
According to PennDOT, lane closures will affect both directions of travel:
- Monday, December 8, through Friday, December 12, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, westbound U.S. 422 will be reduced to a single lane between the Sanatoga (Evergreen Road) and Hanover Street interchanges.
- During the same dates, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, eastbound U.S. 422 will face lane closures between the Hanover Street and Sanatoga (Evergreen Road) interchanges.
The staggered schedules are designed to manage peak traffic volumes, but PennDOT warned drivers that delays will still be substantial throughout the corridor. The agency urged motorists to leave extra travel time or consider alternate routes.
The reconstruction project remains one of the region’s most extensive highway upgrades, with crews working to rebuild pavement, modernize bridges, and improve long-term travel reliability.
All work is weather dependent.
