TINICUM TWP, PA — Midday travelers near Philadelphia International Airport should prepare for turning delays beginning Monday as PennDOT restricts access at a busy Route 291 intersection.
From February 23 through March 5, right-turn lanes will close Mondays through Thursdays between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the intersection of Route 291 (Industrial Highway) and Scott Way/Bartram Avenue. The restrictions are part of a $26.5 million project to replace the twin bridges carrying Route 291 over Conrail tracks.
No detours are posted, but drivers using Scott Way or Bartram Avenue to access Route 291 should expect slower traffic and periodic backups during the work window. Plan extra time if traveling through the corridor, especially during lunch-hour traffic. Motorists may consider alternate routes such as Island Avenue or I-95 where appropriate.
The larger project will replace the aging bridge with a wider, two-span steel structure designed to carry two lanes in each direction and accommodate a future multiuse trail.
Expect delays and remain alert in the work zone.
