TESCO Rebrands AMI Division, Signaling Major Push Into Smart Grid Innovation

TESCO Metering

BRISTOL, PATESCO® Metering is consolidating its advanced metering technologies under a single brand, announcing that its long-standing Nighthawk business unit will be renamed TESCO AMI Solutions. The move brings all AMI development, engineering, and manufacturing fully into TESCO’s U.S. operations in Bristol, Pennsylvania, strengthening the company’s position in the rapidly expanding smart grid market.

The rebranding reflects a strategic shift: integrating Nighthawk’s mesh-cellular communications technology directly into TESCO’s broader metering portfolio. By unifying the business under one identity, TESCO aims to simplify utility procurement, streamline support, and expand its role as a U.S.-based provider of AMI systems.

TESCO AMI Solutions will continue supporting a suite of established platforms, including Adaptiv™, a zero-infrastructure AMI system that blends cellular and mesh networking; Fiber Hub, a high-speed fiber-mesh node for utilities using fiber backhaul; and DirectConnect™, a plug-and-play LTE module designed to integrate with legacy systems like Itron MV-90 and Aclara MeterMate.

The company said the shift is designed to help utilities accelerate modernization without building costly traditional communications networks. TESCO AMI Solutions will offer tools for real-time visibility, outage alerts, voltage monitoring, and predictive analytics, while maintaining compatibility with both legacy and next-generation metering systems.

“Renaming Nighthawk to TESCO AMI Solutions reflects both our heritage and our future,” said Tom Lawton, President and CEO of TESCO Metering. He emphasized that the rebrand strengthens the company’s 120-year track record in metering accuracy while expanding its role in advanced grid communications. All engineering, manufacturing, and service teams will continue operating out of Bristol.

TESCO noted that existing Nighthawk customers will see continuity in service, warranties, and product roadmaps. The company also highlighted its U.S.-based manufacturing, ISO certifications, and vertically integrated operations as key advantages for utilities seeking secure and reliable AMI solutions.

With the launch of TESCO AMI Solutions, TESCO aims to deepen its footprint across electric, water, and gas utilities as the industry shifts toward smarter, more connected grid infrastructure.
